Top Prospect Promotions and Top 100 Just Missed ⬆️🔥

We detail top prospect call ups and promotions in addition to our Top 100 Just Missed List.

We are swiftly approaching the end of the Minor League season, but that does not mean we are short on prospect news.

For all of the baseball fans who have been following closely to all of the top performers across all levels, they are now seeing their favorite prospects promoted to the next level, or even making their way to the big leagues. Not only do we have promotions, but we have had some incredible debuts already.

One young right-hander dominated in his first start as his team was looking for a spark. The other, even though he had his first career home run robbed, still gave the organization a lot of hope that he will be a key to them returning to form next season.

We also had a mid-season update to Just Baseball’s Top 100 list.

Following our full Top 100 breakdown, we now pivot to looking at some of the names who just missed the Top 100.

Prospect Call Ups and Promotions

Orioles call up #6 propsect Samuel Basallo. With the date of August 15th passing to ensure rookie eligibility for next season, Baltimore is finally giving their star prospect a shot. Through 76 games in Triple-A, the powerful 20-year-old has posted a .966 OPS with 23 home runs, further cementing himself as one of the best prospects in baseball.

With Baltimore shifting gears towards the future, Basallo will have the rest of the season to fully earn an everyday role.

Cubs call up #41 prospect Caissie. Like the Orioles did with Basallo, the Cubs made the long anticipated call up of outfielder Owen Caissie.

Prior to his call up, he had shown in every way possible that there was nothing else for him to do in the Minors. In 93 games, he was hitting .289 with 22 home runs, 52 runs driven in, and a 142 wRC+. With the Cubs puttering down the stretch, and trying to find a way to give their offense a jolt, they are giving the youngster a shot.

At least we thought they were…

Having only been given five plate appearances heading into August 18th, there’s a chance he gets sent back to Iowa to get consistent at-bats if they can’t find a way to get him in the lineup.

Mets call up #42 prospect Nolan McLean. Wow did the Mets need some signs on life from their team with the recent stretch they had found themselves in prior to taking two of three from the Mariners. We just didn’t think it would come from McLean.

The 24-year-old right hander twirled 5.1 scoreless innings in his debut, striking out eight hitters, and even had a highlight play that help him escape what was the only trouble he found himself in on Saturday. It sure does look like the rookie is just what this team needed to get back on track, and try to make a push for the NL East title.

Orioles call up #100 prospect Dylan Beavers. Just rounding out our Top 100 prospect list, and the final call-up we are going to be bringing up, is Beavers.

He is making his way to Baltimore is the most advantageous situation possible for him as the Orioles are now solely focused on seeing what they have on their roster to look to get back on track for 2026.

The lefty-swinging stud was hitting to a .934 OPS down in Norfolk and will now look to etch his name into the minds of the Orioles brass when they start piecing together their Opening Day roster for next season.

Konnor Griffin (#2 prospect) and Leo De Vries (#7 prospect) promoted to Double-A. Aside from the big league call ups that we saw over the past week, the Minor Leagues did not disappoint us when it came to prospect news.

Griffin and the recently traded Leo De Vries are on their way to their respective organizations’ Double-A affiliates.

With Griffin, he’s been on absolute fire for what feels like forever now. His .942 OPS, and Gold Glove-caliber defense have been on full display and he’s looking more and more like the real deal as the days go by.

Now when it comes to De Vries, this one is a little more impressive. Not just because he just seemed to hit the ground running from the second he arrived in the Athletics organization, but because he is going to be the youngest player at the level at just 18 years old. He will become only the 19th 18-year-old to play in Double-A since 2010.

Top 100 Just Missed List

Following the release of Aram Leighton’s latest Top 100 Prospects List, we began to talk through the players that just missed out and could easily find their way onto the list in the near future.

Our Just Missed List features 13 players who didn’t make the cut for this list, but are still certainly top 100 level talents.

Five 2025 Draft Picks

Say what you want about the prospects that were apart of the 2025 class, but we were entertained from the very first pick.

The Top 100 featured plenty of prospect from this class, but there were a few that may be considered notable omissions, for now. Starting right near the top with the number two overall pick, the Angels’ new right-hander Tyler Brenmer is the first to be left off.

Then came three players selected back-to-back-to-back in Billy Carlson of the White Sox, prep shortstop for the Reds Steele Hall, and one of the more notable prospects of this class early on, LHP Jamie Arnold of the Athletics. The final first-round pick that did not make the list was Astros new shortstop from Mt. Vernon HS, Xavier Neyens.

While it is not an indictment to their talent level, they just weren’t able to crack what is currently a loaded Top 100 list.

Knocking on the Door

Right on the outside looking in, we had five players who could be argued as deserving of a spot.

OF Hector Rodriguez (CIN), SS Kaelen Culpepper (MIN), OF Braylon Payne (MIL), LHP Cam Caminiti (ATL), and P Jurrangelo Cijntje (SEA) have all shown signs of being a future top-100 prospect.

Whether it’s continued improvement on the mound, or at the plate, it would not come to anyone’s surprise if they find themselves in the middle of the next update after just missing it this time around.

Fell Off…for Now

When you have so many newcomers to a list, you inevitably are going to have some players who fall off. Unfortunately, due to a number of different circumstances, INF Aroon Escobar (PHI), 1B Xavier Isaac (TB), and LHP Ricky Tiedemann (TOR) are no longer featured on the latest update.

Escobar has gone through quite the slump in 2025, which is why he was left off the list. You can then clump the next two together as both have dealt with their fair share of injuries, and have had trouble rounding back into form.

Needless to say, the talent is still there, but their production has not been and is why they have been moved off of the latest Top 100 update.
