Top Remaining Free Agents and Offseason Update 👀

We check in on the MLB offseason and take a look at our updated remaining top free agents.

In partnership with

Does it feel like we’re all just waiting around for the big signings to go down? Because it feels like that to me this week…

With the Winter Meetings in the rearview mirror, focus shifts solely to when the top names will sign, in addition to the potential of blockbuster trades.

As we await more news on both fronts, we’ll catch up on signings and rumors around MLB. We also updated our top free agents board with new names added and predictions for every player.

Latest Offseason Updates

The offseason chugs along, and we have updates across the league since the end of the Winter Meetings!

Recent Signings

For the most part, the deals have been minor. If you missed it last week, though, one last huge one was struck on the final day of meetings in Orlando.

Pete Alonso officially leaves New York for Baltimore. The Polar Bear has officially left the concrete jungle to the shock of most Mets fans. New York did sign Jorge Polanco to a two-year deal, but there is much more that needs to be done. Watch this section of the latest episode of the Just Baseball Show to hear how the Mets can save their offseason!

Braves add key pieces on both sides of the ball. Atlanta has seriously disappointed the past couple of seasons, and they’re hoping to turn it around in 2026. They inked top remaining relief arm Robert Suarez to a three-year, $45 million deal last week.

They also solidified their outfield alongside Ronald AcuĂąa Jr. and Michael Harris II by signing Mike Yastrzemski to a two-year deal, which includes a third-year club option and $23 million in guaranteed money.

Don’t forget that to top all of this off, the Braves brought back shortstop Ha-Seong Kim on a single-year pact. He will be paid $20 million and is practically guaranteed to be the club’s full-time shortstop in 2026.

Merrill Kelly returns to the Diamondbacks. After dealing the veteran starter to the Rangers at the deadline just over four months ago, Arizona signed Kelly to a two-year, $40 million deal. The veteran starter provides much-needed stability to the Dbacks’ rotation, and they netted three prospects for being without him for just a few months.

Adolis Garcia heads to Philly. The two-time All-Star will look to rejuvenate his career after inking a one-year, $10 million deal with the Phillies.

Minor signings stack up. A variety of veterans inked one-year deals as they’ll to provide value for their new teams ⬇️

Rumor Mill is Hot

The rumors are flying, and while most will not come true, some always do!

New team emerges in Alex Bregman race. The Diamondbacks are reportedly considering the possibility of bringing in Alex Bregman…

Ketel Marte buzz continues. One of the hottest names all winter has been the star second baseman. We learned this week that Marte has five teams on his no-trade list:

  • Yankees

  • Pirates

  • Giants

  • Cardinals

  • Athletics

Plenty of teams are considering Marte, but Arizona will still seemingly have to be blown away by an offer to make a deal.

Top Remaining Free Agents

We’ve seen plenty of names come off the board, but the top four free agents from the start of the winter remain on the board.

The market has taken its time to develop, particularly in terms of the premier position players and starting pitchers. We’re due to see some of these top names sign soon!

Big four bats are still available. While we saw some big names like Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso ink five-year deals recently, the top tier of hitters remain on the market. Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, Bo Bichette, and Cody Bellinger are all expected to sign large deals this offseason, with Bregman having the most buzz this week.

Top non-Cease starting pitchers. For Cease, the free agency process was quick and effective. For the rest of the top-end starters who hit free agency, it hasn’t been. This sector of the market, headlined by Framber Valdez, hasn’t started to move just yet.

Trio of Japanese stars have limited time to sign. The hype surrounding these free agents has quieted of late, but they’re going to be viewed as a huge addition for whoever ends up getting a deal done in the next couple of weeks. Check out our breakdown of Tatsuya Imai’s profile!

Trivia Answer: D) Rockies and Red Sox

Both teams have been active, but not on the free-agent front.

To date, the Rockies added first baseman Troy Johnston on waivers, RJ Petit via the Rule 5 Draft, and Brennan Bernardino in a trade with the Red Sox.

On Boston’s end, Sonny Gray, Johan Oviedo, Ryan Watson (Rule 5), Tyler Samaniego, Tristan Gray, and Jake Bennett are all on the 40-man roster and were added via trade. That’s a lot of new blood to be brought aboard without a single one of them coming from free agency.
