Top Prospects Who Could Break Camp with MLB Club šŸ“ˆ

A preview of which top prospects you should keep an eye on heading into Spring Training.

In partnership with

Well, well, wellā€¦somehow we are just over a month away from pitchers and catchers reporting to Spring Training. While we await news on the remaining top free agents available, itā€™s just about time to look at how rosters will shake out around the league this spring.

This edition of our prospects newsletter will thus focus on the prospects around MLB who could push for an MLB roster spot right out of the gate.

While plenty of other players such as top pitching prospect in baseball Jackson Jobe debuted last season and should break camp, we focused on those that have not debuted at the MLB level yet.

Letā€™s take a look into the next generation of stars that you may see on MLB rosters sooner rather than later in 2025.

American League Prospects

Led by our top overall prospect in baseball, the American League is loaded with league-ready elite talents heading into 2025. With the National League being more stacked than with more teams pushing their chips all-in, the American League feels rather open in comparison.

  • Roman Anthony established himself as our top prospect with an excellent Triple-A debut to finish out the 2024 season. The question becomes how does he fit within a deep Boston lineup as he wonā€™t crack the roster if heā€™s not set up to get ample playing time. Barring an unforeseen move, Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Masataka Yoshida are all set to get playing time in the outfield, but Anthonyā€™s elite talent could make it hard to leave him off the roster.

  • Another Red Sox prospect could crack the roster after a breakout season as a versatile utility player. Kristian Campbell tore up the minors last year and was named the MiLB Hitter of the Year. While he played just 19 games in Triple-A, Campbellā€™s versatility could make him an option.

  • With one of the most unique (confusing?) swings youā€™ll see, Chase DeLauter does not fit the mold of a typical Cleveland prospect. Heā€™s got high-end power upside fused with a consistent hit tool despite a big swing. If the Guardians stay on top of the AL Central this year, DeLauter will part of that at some point.

  • A team that is simply trying to establish pieces for the future this year could let one top prospect loose to start the season. Edgar Quero shined within the White Sox farm system and could have a shot to break camp at just 21 years old after posting a .845 OPS in his first Triple-A stint last year.

  • Notorious for promoting prospects quickly, the Angels might just allow their first round pick from 2024, Christian Moore, to jump straight to MLB after just 25 MiLB games. He did dominate with a .984 OPS and six home runs in those games, though, which could give him a shot to start Opening Day.

Just Baseball Trivia of the Week

Our newsletter will have a trivia question every week to test and expand the baseball knowledge of our subscribers! The answer to the weekly trivia question will be at the bottom of the newsletter each week.

*Context for this question: If a player who was rated as a preseason Top 100 prospect by MLB Pipeline, Baseball America, and/or ESPN (at least two of the three) and was on his team's Opening Day roster and goes on to win the Rookie of the Year Award or place in the top three in MVP or Cy Young voting prior to qualifying for arbitration, the club is awarded a Prospect Promotion Incentive pick after the first round.

Which team will have a prospect promotion incentive pick in the 2025 MLB Draft?

A) Baltimore Orioles

B) Arizona Diamondbacks

C) Kansas City Royals

D) Detroit Tigers

National League Prospects

The headlined prospects in the American League were all offensive talents, but there are more exciting pitchers lurking in the National League realm. A variety of prospects in the NL could also be a big part of teams trying to contend this season.

  • Could the Pirates potentially have a Rookie of the Year starting pitcher for a second year in a row? Bubba Chandler will certainly have a shot if he gets enough innings after dominating Triple-A to end his 2024 campaign.

  • While it may not be as a starter, Jacob Misiorowski could join the Brewers at the onset of the season after finishing out his year in the Triple-A bullpen. His stuff is up there with just about anyone and he could have a quick path to the closer role following the Devin Williams trade if Milwaukee keeps him in the bullpen. The Brewers have other players on the way as well.

  • After trading for Kyle Tucker and dealing Isaac Paredes in the process, the Cubs clearly believe Matt Shaw can become their starting third baseman this year. Their roster is coming together and Shaw seems very likely to be part of it after belting 21 home runs and stealing 31 bases while settling into a new role at third base.

  • Sean Murphy will still start, but Drake Baldwin has a clear route to being the second backstop in Atlanta. He could take some pressure off Murphy as well and is coming off an excellent 72 games in Triple-A where he got on base at a .407 clip across the final few months of 2024.

  • The Nationals are quietly building an exciting young roster and Brady House is yet another exciting piece to add to the mix. He flashed power last year, but was plagued with inconsistency and had some approach struggles in Triple-A that will need to be ironed out. He may not be ready just yet, but Washington could still consider bringing another young core piece up early this season.
