Top Prospect Exclusive Interviews and D-Backs Top 10 Prospects
Rays Top Prospect Carson Williams and Pirates Top Prospect Termarr Johnson join the show plus a breakdown of the D-Backs top 10 prospects is out!
The Arizona Fall League is coming to an end this weekend which means we won’t have games to discuss over the next couple months. We’ll have a full recap of players that stood out this fall next week, but for now we’ll highlight some content from the past week.
From interviews to breakout prospects and everything in between, The Call Up has got you covered this offseason!
The Call Up Interviews
Throughout the season we host interviews with top prospects across MLB and this offseason will be no different! We kicked off a loaded slate of prospect interviews with a pair of great ones this week.
These two prospects are currently representing Team USA in the Premier12 Tournament. The former first round picks joined us to discuss their development, playing in the tournament, and much more.
Carson Williams
Rays No. 1 and No. 5 MLB Prospect
The top infield prospect in the game has done nothing but impress in his first three professional season and is knocking on the door in Tampa.
While playing in the pitcher-friendly Double-A Southern League at just 20 years old to begin the season, Carson Williams excelled early and often. While playing essentially the entire season at each level over the past three years, Williams has maintained production and even improved relative to the level each season.
2022 in Single-A: .252/.347/.471, 124 wRC+, 19 HR, 28 SB
2023 in High-A: .254/.351/.506, 131 wRC+, 23 HR, 17 SB
2024 in Double-A: .256/.352/.469, 142 wRC+, 20 HR, 33 SB
Williams is experiencing Team USA baseball for the first time and enjoying every minute of the journey thus far. His offensive output takes the majority of the attention, but he also broke down how he has become an excellent defensive shortstop and the mindset he utilizes at shortstop.
He also dove into his development over the years, being part of the loaded Rays system, memorable moments, and more!
Termarr Johnson
Pirates No. 4 and No. 95 MLB Prospect
Drafted in the first round by Pittsburgh in 2022, Termarr Johnson has always possessed ample power and a naturally strong approach at the plate.
He excelled in his first professional season in 2023 spent between Single-A and High-A before reaching Double-A late this season. At just 20 years old, Johnson has displayed power well above the expectation for a player of his stature while getting on base frequently due to excellent plate discipline and patience.
Single-A/High-A in 2023: .422 OBP, 141 wRC+, 18 HR, 101 BB, 10 SB
High-A in 2024: .372 OBP, 123 wRC+, 13 HR, 78 BB, 20 SB
Johnson discussed how meaningful it is to play for Team USA again after doing so throughout the early parts of his baseball career. He also dished on just how much he loves the sport, his batting style, the Pittsburgh system, and more!
Diamondbacks Top Prospects
Our next system top prospects list features the Arizona Diamondbacks farm system. Arizona made the World Series in 2023, but missed out on the postseason in heartbreaking fashion and will look to get back on track in 2025.
Led by their hopeful shortstop of the future, the farm system is highlighted by a number of potential impact bats and exciting long-term assets with upside.
Top prospect Jordan Lawlar debuted with Arizona briefly in 2023 and was expected to play a big role in 2024 before injuries derailed his season. In 2023, Lawlar posted an .874 OPS with 20 home runs between Double-A and Triple-A. In his 12 games at Triple-A this season, Lawlar was excellent as he posted a 1.031 OPS with six extra-base hits. Lawlar is expected to man shortstop for the D-Backs when healthy in 2025.

Arizona’s last two first round picks slot into the second and fourth spots. Slade Caldwell was drafted this year with the upside of a top-of-the-order speedster with great feel to hit. Tommy Troy was drafted out of Stanford last season and had a tough first year while dealing with injuries but possesses a well-rounded bat with a blend of contact, power, and speed.
The biggest breakout of the season was Demetrio Crisantes who was drafted out of high school in the seventh round two years ago. His approach and bat-to-ball skills led to a huge season as he even cracked our Top 100 as the 99th-ranked prospect in baseball. He hit .333 with a .907 OPS and 20 stolen bases in 63 Single-A games this season and just turned 20 years old in September.
