Top MLB Free Agents 📝⚾️
We provide a full free agency guide as the MLB offseason kicks off this week!

We are not even a week removed from Game 7 of the World Series, and yet it feels like much more time has passed. When all eyes are on two teams, it can feel like the baseball world is standing still. Once we crown a champion, though, the baseball world starts spinning on its axis and it happens quick.
Once the final out is recorded, the baseball calendar immediately flips from 2025 to 2026.
It all starts with an unofficial five-day moratorium, where contract options are decided, Qualifying Offers are tendered and the stage is set for the wild chase for new talent that is about to begin once free agency opens up for all 30 teams.
Technically free agency starts as soon as the World Series ends, but teams have a five-day window where they can only sign deals with their own free agents. Once we get to 5:00 p.m. EST tonight, every free agent is on the table for any team.
If you haven’t gotten a chance yet to dive fully into which players are going to be available in free agency, and which teams may be a good fit, we have you covered with everything you need to know in one newsletter.
Top Free Agents

This year’s free agent class has an interesting mix of some of the game’s brightest stars who are getting their first crack at free agency, like Kyle Tucker, Bo Bichette, and Dylan Cease, while also seeing a host of free agents return to the market off strong platform years who are looking for their next big deals.
This group of veteran free agents includes Scott Boras clients Alex Bregman, Cody Bellinger, and Pete Alonso, all of which have opted out of contract in search for long-term deals which eluded them the last time they hit the market.
Our editorial team spent the last few weeks collaborating on our list of the top 20 free agents of the 2025-2026 class ranked.
Predicting Contracts and Landing Spots for Each Top Free Agent
Once we made our list of the top 20 free agents, I got the chance to do my favorite work of the offseason. Where I spend way too much time diving into each free agent’s profile and try to determine what their contract will be, and which team will give it to them.
Then, I make my official predictions on landing spots and contract values on each of the top free agents available.
This a great resource to have saved as I update the post regularly throughout the offseason, keeping track of how many free agents I get right, and more importantly, how many I get laughably wrong.
For example, I had Shane Bieber signing a two-year, $45 million deal with the Mets, and he inexplicably picked up a $16 million player option to remain with the Blue Jays this week. 0-for-1 and free agency hasn’t even started yet!
The list doesn’t stop at the initial top 20, as we are constantly adding new free agents and ranking the top remaining players on the board with each update. J.T. Realmuto has Bieber to thank for landing in the top 20 featured on the site right now.
Top Free Agents By Position
If you are looking for a more expansive view of the 2025-2026 MLB Free Agent Class, we have organized lists of the top players at each position for our readers.
We broke this down into four pieces, where we focused on each different segment of the open market this winter.

Landing Spots and Team Wishlists
While there is one landing spot and a specific contract listed for each player in my free agent predictions piece, our staff has been chipping away at providing our readers with a free agent profile on each of the top guys who are hitting the market.
These profiles highlight the top potential landing spots for each free agent, with a look into the type of contract they should expect based on their previous play.
So far we have written full dives into nine of the top 20 free agents, as well as six other free agents who we ranked just outside out top 20. Stay locked in on the site, and to our social media accounts, as we are publishing new free agents every day.
Another article series to be aware of is our team wish list pieces.
Our team-specific writers have been putting on their GM caps and have come up with what an ideal offseason looks like for their team’s this winter. We have only written five of them so far, with many more on the way in the coming weeks.

Other Headlines
🤔 Shane Bieber picked up his $16 million player option with the Blue Jays, despite him being just about certain to get more value and years on the open market. This may just simply be a case of a guy who wants to win, which we have to respect. Bieber allowed the game-winning homer in Game 7 of the World Series and he may be determined to get Toronto over that hump.
đź‘€ Shota Imanaga is surprisingly hitting the market after both team and player options were declined. It was a mixed bag this season for the second-year MLB player in Chicago as he started the season strong but had a rough second half with underlying metrics taking a step in the wrong direction.
📝 The Padres have hired Craig Stammen to be their next manager. The former MLB reliever spent six years in the San Diego bullpen, retiring officially during the 2023 MLB season. He had been part of the staff in San Diego for the past two seasons and now takes the helm.

Trivia Answer: B) Blake Snell
The now World Series Champion signed a five-year, $182 million deal with the Dodgers last offseason. His AAV of $36.4 million just topped Corbin Burnes’ deal with Arizona, which was worth $35 million on a yearly basis.
