It got off to a slow start leading up to this weekend but the MLB Trade Deadline (official deadline at 6pm EST tonight) heated up in a big way over the weekend!

The Dodgers made the biggest deal of the deadline, to absolutely nobody’s surprise, while other contenders are trying to scrap together enough productive pieces to compete against them in October.

Let’s recap all the trades so far leading up to tonight’s deadline!

Tarik Skubal to the Dodgers

Well, 29 fanbases have been feared this all season and it has now become reality. Back-to-back Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal is heading to the back-to-back reigning champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

After plenty of speculation, the Dodgers got their guy.

Dodgers receive: LHP Tarik Skubal

Tigers receive: RHP River Ryan, OF Zyhir Hope, and RHP Brady Smith

The Dodgers have a ridiculous rotation, building upon one that was already absolutely lethal. Tarik Skubal, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Roki Sasaki. I mean, are we serious???

Let’s be clear though here. The Dodgers traded serious value to make to it happen, despite what angry fans may be screaming into the void of social media.

Zyhir Hope and River Ryan are both top 50 prospects in baseball for us with the upside to become key pieces of the future in Detroit. Despite Skubal’s excellence, this is a rental pitcher who will make 10-12 starts under this current contract for Los Angeles.

Major Trades Around MLB

Aside from the trade that is the talk of baseball right now for reasonable and less reasonable folks, there have been plenty of big moves around the league with many over the weekend and a few big ones coming in hot this morning!

Phillies Acquire Luis Arraez from the Giants. After a quiet weekend by Philly, they struck big this morning by trading for the top contact bat on the market in exchange for a pair of prospects, headline by a top breakout name this season in Ramon Marquez.

Arraez instantly adds a needed layer of depth to the lineup for the Phillies, who needed another legit bat in the mix.

Yankees acquire Luis Garcia Jr. from the Nationals. New York was always going to be in need of a bat, and they got a big one in the form of Garcia who has taken a huge step forward for Washington this season.

He comes with a year and a half of control and should slot right into the heart of the order while playing a combination of first and second base for the Yankees.

White Sox acquire Luis Castillo from the Mariners. Chicago was in the market for a starter while the Mariners absolutely needed to move one. This deal gets those both done with the teams swapping bad contracts as Seranthony Dominguez is heading back to Seattle. The Mariners real get here is catching prospect Boston Smith, who has had a big breakout year in his first professional season.

Blue Jays acquire Jose Soriano from the Angels. Despite selling off a rental, which we’ll get to soon, Toronto added a big piece in the form of breakout arm Jose Soriano.

He's under team control for two and a half years and will now become a key piece for Toronto over the next few years despite this season being all but a lost year for them. The Angels were able to pry away our top-ranked Blue Jays prospect, Arjun Nimmala, who instantly becomes the best prospect in the Halos’ system.

Cubs acquire Kevin Gausman from the Blue Jays. Prior to trading for an arm, Toronto shipped off their veteran arm to the Cubs. Gausman was a huge part of Toronto’s run last year, but has taken a step back in 2026 and he’s set to hit free agency this winter. The Cubs will hope he can have another huge few months in their rotation heading into October.

Rays acquire Freddy Peralta from the Mets. Despite being often quiet at the deadline, Tampa got a starter who has been excellent in the past but has struggled this season in New York. If the Rays can get Peralta back to peak form, he’ll become a force in their already strong rotation. The Mets got a trio of prospects with some intrugue headlined by Emilien Pitre, who has taken a big step this season.
