MLB Spring Training Headlines 🌅

Baseball season is off and running with an exciting first week of Spring Training in the books.

In partnership with

Baseball is in the air with signature stars and budding prospects alike shining early and often during Spring Training! It’s simply the best time of year for baseball sickos fans like us.

We’ve already seen the stars glisten, up-and-comers begin to bloom, and a flurry of joyous moments fill our aching hearts. For those who haven’t watched much Spring Training action yet, fear not, we’re here to catch you up on the best moments.

March will bring the full-on start of baseball season and we’re almost there, folks.

Spring Training Buzz

Everyone is excited to get a look at their favorite players and it might be early, but the highlights are flowing!

Possibly the most viral moment this week came from Roki Sasaki’s first live sim game with the Dodgers as he faced off against White Sox prospects.

This was definitely a bit of a “welcome to the league” moment for him — and one that surely won’t elicit any overreactions — as Kyle Teel took Sasaki’s second pitch of the day to the moon…

Speaking of highlights, let us introduce you to Jefry Yan of the Colorado Rockies. This has got to be one of the craziest celebrations ever in a February baseball game. The following clip has an xRW (expected rewatches) mark of 400 in the Just Baseball group chat.

Stars Back in Action

While many of the usual stars are slowly eased into Spring Training action at this stage, it’s always fun to see guys back on the field who missed time with injury or weren’t at their best last year.

  • After missing all of 2024, Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara is back on the mound. He hit 99 MPH in his first game back on the bump for Miami.

  • Shohei Ohtani is expected to make his Spring Training hitting debut tomorrow as he works back into being a two-way player. Don’t forget, it’s not just that he can play both, it’s that he’s elite at both.

  • The Braves are set to receive a duo of superstars back this season, but neither have made their spring return just yet. Ronald Acuña is nearing game action while Spencer Strider should appear in a game for Atlanta fairly soon.

Prospects Shine

Could just be that we’re big-time nerds here, but it feels like more top prospects than ever are getting their chance to shine with the big league club during Spring Training.

From top recent draft picks to young international stars, players with little-to-no chance to break camp are still getting reps early in Spring Training.

Last year’s top overall draft pick, Travis Bazzana, wasted no time making an impression with the Guardians.

But it’s not just batters! One of the most impressive pitching prospects throughout 2024 has a shot to break camp with Pittsburgh like Jared Jones did last spring.

Bubba Chandler got his spring started with an impressive first start.

Behind Jefry Yan’s strikeout celebration, this has to be the next best hype moment of the spring. Zac Veen may not have meant to bat flip this hard, but nevertheless, he did, and we are grateful for it.

The Rockies prospect is off to a big start this spring.

Those that follow along with The Call Up have heard the name Craig Yoho plenty over the past year. For the uninitiated, we simply request you watch this video to get a glimpse into how nasty this guy could be for Milwaukee.
