MLB Opening Day Preview šŸ¤©āš¾ļø

The MLB Season has officially kicked off with Opening Night in the books and Opening Day on deck!

In partnership with

Forget what you’re doing on this fine Thursday because it’s Opening Day!!!

The MLB season kicked off last night with a blowout in The Bay, while 22 teams kick off their season today with a bunch of day games and a couple late-night West Coast games.

We’ll have you covered all season with MLB updates across the league, and we’ll kick it off with a simple preview of Opening Week. No more hypotheticals, it’s time to see the results on the field.

MLB Opening Night Recap

The season started with a matchup between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants (exclusively on Netflix if you were wondering why your grandparents called, not knowing how to watch the dang baseball game) that was never particularly close.

The Yankees were all over Logan Webb. It was a rough start to the year for the Giants ace, who has turned in quality outings in each of his previous four Opening Day starts. New York jumped on him with a five-run second inning that put them in control the rest of the way. Webb did not allow seven runs in a single start once in 2025, but did so in his first outing of the new season.

Max Fried dominated San Francisco’s lineup. On the flip side of Webb’s stinker, Fried shoved for the Yankees to start the year. He remains underrated nationally after an excellent 2025 and is off to a great start for New York once again.

Aaron Judge has a Golden Sombrero night…It wasn’t all positive for the Yanks as the reigning MVP had a brutal night at the plate. But remember, it’s just one game. No need to overreact just yet.

Opening Day Preview

Previewing all 11 games on today would be a hit tedious, so apologies if we don’t directly get to your team. But here’s the schedule for today with some noteworthy things to watch across the league ā¬‡ļø

  • Pittsburgh Pirates at New York Mets: 1:15 PM ET

  • Chicago White Sox at Milwaukee Brewers: 2:10 PM ET

  • Washington Nationals at Chicago Cubs: 2:20 PM ET

  • Minnesota Twins at Baltimore Orioles: 3:05 PM ET

  • Boston Red Sox at Cincinnati Reds: 4:10 PM ET

  • Los Angeles Angels at Houston Astros: 4:10 PM ET

  • Detroit Tigers at San Diego Padres: 4:10 PM ET

  • Tampa Bay Rays at St. Louis Cardinals: 4:15 PM ET

  • Texas Rangers at Philadelphia Phillies: 4:15 PM ET

  • Arizona Diamondbacks at Los Angeles Dodgers: 8:30 PM ET

  • Cleveland Guardians at Seattle Mariners: 10:10 PM ET

Paul Skenes faces Mets’ new ace Freddy Peralta. This pitching matchup to start the day off is one of the best we’ll see. Skenes is appointment viewing as you should know by now, while Peralta makes his debut with New York in front of a home crowd. Expectations have not been this high for Pittsburgh in quite some time…

Tarik Skubal begins quest to three-peat as a Cy Young winner. Nobody has done it since Randy Johnson won four straight from 1999-2002, but Skubal is the favorite to win the award in the American League once again. He’ll start off his campaign against Nick Pivetta and the Padres in San Diego today.

Speaking of a quest to three-peat…The Dodgers open the year as the heavy favorite to win their third straight World Series after adding Kyle Tucker and Edwin DĆaz in the offseason. This team is ridiculous. They get started with a series at home against Arizona.

Opening ā€œDayā€ this year is split across three days (we’re just as confused as you). Here are the teams that start their season on Friday ā¬‡ļø

  • Athletics at Toronto Blue Jays: 7:07 PM ET

  • Colorado Rockies at Miami Marlins: 7:10 PM ET

  • Kansas City Royals at Atlanta Braves: 7:15 PM ET

Chris Sale makes his seventh Opening Day start. The veteran pitcher will take the bump for the second straight year for Atlanta and has now started multiple Opening Days for three different teams. A healthy and productive season in 2026 would continue to build Sale’s case to be in the Hall of Fame one day.

Other Headlines

šŸ“ Two stars inked extensions right before the season started. The Cubs signed Pete Crow-Armstrong to a six-year, $115 million deal that buys out his first two years of free agency and keeps him in Chicago through 2033. The Phillies added two years and $88 million of guaranteed money to the contract of Cristopher SĆ”nchez, keeping him with the team through 2032.

šŸ“ˆ Four top prospects yet to debut made their respective Opening Day Rosters. Kevin McGonigle, JJ Wetherholt, Carson Benge, and Andrew Painter will make their MLB debuts in the coming days after breaking camp with their club.
