MLB Opening Day Preview 🌤️🚨
The start of the MLB season has finally come and we're here to get you ready!
Offseason? We hardly know ‘em.
BECAUSE WE HAVE MADE IT!!!!
Every team in the ole MLB will be playing regular season baseball games this week. If you view that as a threat, this may not be the right newsletter for you — and, frankly, we question your heart and soul. But the season has, indeed, arrived and we’re more fired up than Conan on an episode of Hot Ones.
While we hope you’ve enjoyed the content all offseason as we build this newsletter, feel free to forget about all of it now and ready your brain for a clean slate of baseball lore. Let’s get ready for Opening Day with all of the information you need for the start of the season!
Opening Day Preview

The smell of ballpark food, the crack of the bat, and believing your favorite team will finally get over the hump (they probably won’t, but what is grief if not love persevering?). All the things we love about Opening Day!
When is Opening Day?
The Tokyo Series took place with the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers defeating the Chicago Cubs in a pair of games at the Tokyo Dome last week.
The season is fully, officially, fantastically taking off tomorrow though, as 26 teams will celebrate Opening Day tomorrow on Thursday, March 27.
The day gets started at 3:05 EST when the Brewers and Yankees first pitch is scheduled in New York. Plan accordingly, baseball kings and queens.
Breakout Players for 2025
We’ve been putting together a ton of content heading into the season about players to keep an eye on. Check out all of these articles as a sort of starter pack for the 2025 season:
Win Total Predictions
This week we’ve been predicting how the season will go for every team in the league on the Just Baseball Show. Aram and Peter gave their pick for every team’s over/under win total for the American League and National League.
Here’s how they predicted the American League Central to shake out:

Headlines Around MLB
Catcher extensions are in style! Cal Raleigh and the Mariners agreed on a six-year, $105 million deal to keep “Big Dumper” behind the dish for a good long while in Seattle. On the other hand, Alejandro Kirk and the Blue Jays inked a five-year, $58 million extension to lock him in as the catcher in Toronto. And former Yankees defensive stalwart Jose Trevino got in on the fun, signing a two-year, $11.5 million extension to remain part of a catching tandem in Cincy.
A pair of young arms got extended as well with Tanner Bibee signing a five-year deal with Cleveland and Justin Martinez doing so with the Arizona.
The youth movement is coming. A pair of 2024 MLB Draft picks made Opening Day rosters with Cam Smith set to debut with Houston after being traded there this offseason (you might remember that big trade with the Kyle Tucker fellow) and Ryan Johnson cracking the Angels roster after being selected in the second round last year despite not playing a SINGLE minor league game.
Opening Day in Cincinnati
The Just Baseball crew will be at Opening Day between the Reds and Giants in Cincinnati tomorrow! Come say hi! We really love ya’ll!
The Reds are the only team that plays at home every season with their annual Findlay Market Parade — a city holiday dating all the way back to 1920 — to celebrate the start of the MLB season. We want in on that and you should too if you love baseball.
We’ll be giving away a signed Hunter Greene jersey outside of the BetMGM Sportsbook to celebrate the day.
We’ll also be hosting a fan meetup TODAY from 4-6pm before Opening Day at Hit Seekers Sports Cards.

If you’re reading our newsletter, you’re probably what the youth like to refer to as ball-knower. Consequently, you’re likely aware of just how incredible, and nearly unprecedented, Paul Skenes was as a rookie last season.
Was it really worth $1.1 million though? Apparently so.
Paul Skenes 1/1 Debut Patch Card sold at auction last week for over $1.1 million, making it one of the most expensive baseball cards of all time.
𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆: The Paul Skenes 1/1 Rookie Debut Patch Autograph card has sold at auction for $1,110,000.
Of all active MLB players, only Mike Trout has ever had a card sell for more.

Trivia Answer: C) Babe Ruth
With just seven home runs on Opening Day, Ruth is one shy of the other three for the all-time lead. Ruth did hit an Opening Day homer in three different decades, though, and his team went 7-0 across those games. Not bad for such a niche player.
