2024 Bowman Draft Top Chases

Travis Bazzana - 2B - Cleveland Guardians

Just Baseball #18 prospect

The Cleveland Guardians selected Travis Bazzana out of Oregon State with the #1 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft making him the biggest chase in Bowman Draft 2024. Bazzana hit .407 with 28 homers and was second in the country with a 1.462 OPS last season. He has lightning quick hands that give him above average power, especially to the pull side, and his 77 walks were second most in all of college baseball as he’s shown well above average plate discipline.

Bazzana comes in at #18 on the latest version of Just Baseball’s Top 100 MLB Prospects List. The hype is very real for Bazzana, making his cards the most sought after in Bowman Draft 2024.

Jac Caglianone - 1B/LHP - Kansas City Royals

Just Baseball #54 prospect

Caglianone is a 6’5, 250 pound behemoth that not only possesses the best power in the class, but will immediately boast some of the best raw power in the Minor Leagues. Although drafted as a two-way player, it makes the most long-term sense for Caglianone to place his focus on hitting full-time much like Bryce Eldridge.

Caglianone hit 35 home runs in 66 games for the Gators and has the power potential to hit 40+ in a full MLB season. He’s one of the top chases in this product and for good reason.

Nick Kurtz - 1B - Athletics

Just Baseball #59 prospect

Kurtz is an imposing figure, who stands at 6’5, 230 and consistently hits the ball in the air. He launched 61 home runs in 164 collegiate games with more than half of his hits being for extra bases. He’s a first base masher who led college baseball in walks despite only playing in 54 games last year.

Kurtz currently ranks 59th on Just Baseball’s Top 100 MLB Prospects List. He could be one of the future stars for the A’s as they make their way to Vegas in 2028.

Christian Moore - 2B - Los Angeles Angels

Just Baseball #90 prospect

Moore took the world by storm as he led Tennessee to a College World Series title and became the second player in College World Series history to hit for the cycle. His 34 home runs ranked 3rd most in the country behind Charlie Condon and Jac Caglianone and after getting drafted by the Angels, Moore started his minor league career off with six home runs in eight games.

Moore offers 30 home run upside and should have a chance to crack the Angels Opening Day roster with how aggressive they are with their prospects. Moore ranks 90th on Just Baseball’s Top 100 list.

Konnor Griffin - SS/OF - Pittsburgh Pirates

Just Baseball #64 prospect

Griffin was the first prep player off the board in the 2024 draft. The Pirates signed him for an overslot $6.53 million bonus to keep him away from LSU.

Griffin offers as much upside as any prospect in the class. He’s 6-foot-4, 210 pounds with plus run times and excels defensively both in centerfield and at shortstop. If that wasn’t enough he was an early round pitching prospect on the mound as well.

Griffin can produce big power with minimal effort and has room for ever more strength within his frame. As with most prep players, it’s difficult to project Griffin offensively at this point due to the wide range of outcomes, but his monstrous ceiling and steady improvements bode well for his outlook as he enters professional baseball in 2025.

Bryce Rainer - SS - Detroit Tigers

Just Baseball #63 prospect

Rainer was selected 11th overall by the Tigers as the third prep player off the board. A left-handed hitting shortstop with plus power potential and the tools to stick at short, he stood out as one of the top prep players in the 2024 class.

He will need to make some strides in the contact department to attain his ceiling, but the ingredients are there for Rainer to be an everyday shortstop and borderline All-Star. He’s already ranked in the top 5 of the Tigers system that lacks talent up the middle making him a coveted player by the organization and fans alike.

Braden Montgomery - OF - Boston Red Sox

Just Baseball #77 prospect

Montgomery blasted his way through the SEC this past season with 27 homers for Texas A&M before being taken 12th overall by the Boston Red Sox. Montgomery likely would have been selected earlier if not for suffering a broken ankle in the Super Regionals. The expectation is that Montgomery will make a full recovery and be ready for the 2025 season.

Montgomery was traded to the White Sox yesterday along with Kyle Teel and two other prospects in exchange for Garrett Crochet. Montgomery is a 6’2 switch hitter with big power potential and an elite arm making him the ideal corner outfielder. With how thin the White Sox are at the major league level, it opens the door for Montgomery to cruise through the minors and make his debut in Chicago sooner rather than later.

Cam Smith - 3B - Chicago Cubs

Smith balled out as a draft eligible Sophomore hitting .387 with a 1.142 OPS. The Cubs were so impressed with his blend of tools that they took with the 14th overall pick. Smith has the goods to be an everyday big leaguer and his plus raw power from a 6 '3 frame gives him a chance to tap into something even more.

Chase Burns - RHP - Cincinnati Reds

Just Baseball #40 prospect

Burns was untouchable at Wake Forest last season, striking out 191 batters in 100 innings with a 2.70 ERA. The flamethrowing right hander was selected second overall by the Reds and should be on a fast track to making his MLB debut.

Hagen Smith - LHP - Chicago White Sox

Just Baseball #37 prospect

Hagen Smith was selected 5th overall to the White Sox after putting up a 2.04 ERA with 161 strikeouts in 84 innings. The second pitcher selected in the 2024 Draft could be a frontline arm with further refinement of his command and changeup, both of which were far improved in his draft year. Pitchers don’t drive the card market like hitters do, but pitchers with upside like Smith and Burns are worthy of interest.

Carson Benge - OF - New York Mets

Benge finished his Junior season at Oklahoma State with a 1.109 OPS, 24 doubles and 18 home runs. He was selected 19th overall by the Mets and is ranked in the top 5 of the Mets system by most publications.

Griffin Burkholder - OF - Philadelphia Phillies

If you’re looking for a high upside flyer candidate in Bowman Draft, Burkholder fits the bill.

The Phillies gave an overslot $2.5 million bonus to Burkholder, who they drafted in the second round, in order to sway him away from West Virginia. Burkholder showed off his plus speed in his first minor league game legging out a triple.

James Tibbs III - OF - San Francisco Giants

Tibbs III had a beast of a season for the Florida State Seminoles, hitting .363 with a .1.264 OPS and elite plate discipline (11% K-rate, 18.5% BB-rate). This earned him ACC Player of the Year honors and led the Giants to select Tibbs with the 13th overall pick.

He dominated the low-A circuit in his minor league debut, but ran into contact issues in his first taste of high-A. With a full offseason to prepare, Tibbs should have a better go around in 2025.

Seaver King - SS - Washington Nationals

Seaver King has excellent bat to ball skills mixed with speed and plus defense that make him one of the higher floor players in this class. The Nationals were enticed with Seager’s dynamic profile and made him the #10 overall pick in the draft. He won’t blow you away with plus power, but still had an OPS near 1.000 and added 16 homers.
