Final Top 100 MLB Prospects of 2024 đź’Ż

Our last updated Top 100 Prospects List of 2024 dropped this week with fresh faces, plenty of movement, and a new top overall prospect.

Welcome to the first edition of our Prospects Newsletter! This will be a different newsletter from our standard MLB one that focuses solely on the next generation of baseball talent.

We kick off this new edition of the newsletter with our Final Top 100 Prospects of 2024 and an update on the Arizona Fall League which features many various top prospects.

Top 100 Update

This week we released our last Top 100 Prospects Update of 2024 with plenty of new faces, big risers, and a new top prospect in the game!

Red Sox 20-year-old prospect Roman Anthony is our top prospect. After James Wood and Jackson Holliday graduated from the list, Anthony’s all-around upside and projection slots him into our top spot. He played 119 games between AA and AAA.

  • .291/.396/.498, 32 2B, 18 HR, 79 BB, 21 SB

  • .982 OPS with 16 XBH in just 35 games in AAA

Seven newcomers joined the updated Top 100 List. With a couple of graduations and others falling off the list, a group of new prospects joined the list. Some had been right at the edge all year while others soared with impressive finishes to their year.

Cubs, Brewers, Tigers, and Red Sox lead the way with six prospects each. These teams have the most Top 100 prospects in baseball heading into next year and they’re all seemingly in a position to add this winter in hopes of contending in 2025.

  • After making a wild run to the ALDS, the Tigers have three of our top 30 prospects led by the top pitching prospect in baseball, Jackson Jobe.

  • Boston had a disappointing year, but Anthony leads an extremely talented young core of hitters with many like Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer ready to make an impact soon.

  • Despite another frustrating postseason, the Brewers have plenty of young stars on the way per usual. Jesus Made was one of the our huge risers as he didn’t crack the list until midseason and now checks in at 48th.

  • The Cubs seem poised to make big moves soon as they have to decide which of their many league-ready hitting prospects can help now and which can be used in potential trades to further craft their roster.

Four prospects rise over 30 spots on the list. Our MiLB Hitter of the Year, Kristian Campbell, jumped 64 spots while Kumar Rocker was finally able to show his immense talent and rose 50 spots. Guardians shortstop Angel Genao broke out this season, rising 40 spots on the list while Zyhir Hope continues to shine within the Dodgers system and climbed 33 spots to 16th overall.

Let’s take a look at some of the players that stood out during the AFL this year and you can learn much more about on these prospects on The Call Up Podcast.

Standout Hitters

The talent on the offensive side in the Arizona Fall League this season is absolutely off the charts with top prospects across MLB on every roster. Some have stood out in recent weeks as they build their prospect status heading into 2025.

  • Padres top prospect and Just Baseball’s 10th overall prospect Leodalis De Vries has continued his phenomenal breakout season. After missing the past moth of the MiLB season, it took him a few games to shake the rust but De Vries has displayed very advanced approach and polish for someone who will be just 18 years old for all of 2025.

  • Josue Briceño has been the best hitter in the league this fall and has ascended his status among Tigers prospects. He leads the AFL in hits, home runs, and many other offensive metrics as he has become a prospect with a clear up arrow next to his name heading into next year.

  • One of the biggest risers within MiLB in 2024 was Bryce Eldridge, the 2023 first round pick of the Giants. He flew through the minors making it all the way to AAA in his first full professional season and has continued to show his well-above-pace impact at the plate for his age.

  • The most raw power in the league title may belong to Marlins outfield prospect Kemp Alderman. In just nine games, Alderman has hit six home runs and could become a big league piece in Miami by late in 2025.

  • A recent addition to our Top 100, Moises Ballesteros has proven to be a truly great balanced hitter. Despite some defensive improvement being needed still, he has fully hit his way into the 2025 plan for the Cubs. Ballesteros is one of the most balanced hitters in this league at just 20 years old.

  • The second half of the Padres exciting young duo had a rough season this year but Ethan Salas has flashed his potential in spurts this fall. Allowing himself to use the whole field has opened up his offensive impact while his work behind the dish is excellent for his age highlighted by a great arm.

Standout Pitchers

Teams don’t typically send nearly as many top arms to the AFL with arm fatigue and health being more carefully considered than ever. But one of the top prospects in baseball is joined by a variety of names who have impressed.

  • One of the best pitching prospects in baseball had not thrown in a game since 2022, but has quickly reminded everyone of his talent. Andrew Painter started slow but has consistently grabbed triple digit velocity marks while carving in recent starts. He tossed three hitless frames this week and has now made five starts, allowing just eight total hits while striking out 12 batters.

  • Astros prospect Alex Santos hadn’t thrown since May but has impressed in Arizona with a plus slider and cutter combination that plays well off his solid fastball and curveball.

  • One of the unique 2020 undrafted but signed high school players has been the most productive arm in the AFL. Josh Stephan of the Rangers has taken time to develop, but leads the AFL with a 0.54 ERA across 16.2 innings and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 17:3 thus far.

  • Samy Natera saw his velocity tick up drastically after returning from a long injury and it has now reached in an average of 95.2 MPH in the AFL after being at 91.5 MPH during the 2023 season. He has allowed just one run in 10 innings and is likely to rise quickly through the Angels system this year.
