Final MLB Draft Preview and Mock Draft 3.0 ⚾️🥇

One last preview of the MLB Draft including our final mock draft.

The weekend is nearly upon us and that means 615 baseball players will hear their name called as the join the MLB community. The MLB Draft is here!

Our Mock Draft 3.0 went live today with our latest projections for the entire first round of the MLB Draft, which kicks off Sunday.

We’ll break down our mock and all the MLB Draft buzz leading into the weekend. Check out The Call Up Draft Prospects episode and On The Clock’s MLB Draft Mailbag episode for more in-depth projections for the draft.

MLB Mock Draft 3.0

With the 2025 MLB Draft just a few short days away, there are rumors circling around who will be the coveted #1 overall pick to the Washington Nationals.

If you haven’t followed along with this years’ draft run, this class, while there is no clear cut top player, goes extremely deep with talent stretching into the mid rounds that could easily be top picks.

The On The Clock team just dropped their final Mock Draft, be sure to check it out and find out who your favorite team is taking.

Year of the Southpaw

While in previous years we’ve been spoiled with elite right-handed pitchers like Paul Skenes and Chase Burns, 2025 is all about the lefties. With three southpaws in the top six picks, it’s clear who dominated the 2025 draft class at the college level.

Washington Nationals 1.01: Kade Anderson

Anderson has been deemed by many, including his former head coach Jay Johnson, as the “best player in the nation” following his postseason heroics with the National Champion LSU Tigers including a complete game shutout in game one of the College World Series Championship Series.

While the average velocity doesn’t jump off the page, Anderson has been up to 97 this year and the all around arsenal he uses to support the borderline unhittable fastball surely plays.

Los Angeles Angels 1.02: Liam Doyle

Despite the struggles Doyle faced towards the end of his 2025 campaign with Tennessee, his 164 strikeouts in 94 2/3 innings pitched speak for themselves. With a fastball in the high-90s that dominated hitters at the top of the zone all year, his pro-ready arsenal fits the Angels draft strategy of fast tracking players through the minors.

Pittsburgh Pirates 1.06: Jamie Arnold

Once deemed the consensus 1.01 and best player in the class, Florida State’s Jamie Arnold has slipped a little bit, mostly due to his lack of a third pitch. But his fastball-slider combo from his low ¾ arm slot is arguably the best one-two punch of any pitcher in this class.

While his role may end up as a bullpen arm, the Pirates have a great chance to add to their loaded young pitcher stock with a guy that could contribute out of the bullpen as early as 2026.

MLB Draft Key Stories and Info

There are plenty of storylines and players to watch with the depth of the 2025 draft class, and a lot of fits I’d love to see across the board. Here’s a handful to keep an eye on this Sunday:

A Holliday In Coors?

Ethan Holliday has been one of the most talked about prospects in the 2025 class, and has all the tools to go first overall. While there has been discourse on whether or not he will go to the Nationals, the Rockies/Holliday connection makes far too much sense.

Unlike his older brother Jackson, Ethan possesses potential 70-grade power, playing in Coors Field would be a dream for Rockies and baseball fans. If the hit tool can come around like some speculate it can, he could very well be the best player from this class. It’s looking like his athleticism and glove can stick at shortstop based on what he showed this year, it makes him even more appealing as a pick

Who Takes the Golden Spikes Winner?

We aren’t used to seeing the Golden Spikes Award Winner slip far into the first round, with Dylan Crews going second overall in 2023 and Charlie Condon going third overall in 2024, but the general consensus is that 2025 Golden Spikes Award Winner Wehiwa Aloy is going to be a mid-first round pick.

With Dansby Swanson, a former SEC shortstop and Golden Spikes Award Finalist starting to age out, what better way to get the ball rolling for the Cubs than to take Aloy at 17? While there is concern with the swing-and-miss, the defensive prowess can not be ignored as Aloy is clearly a future Gold Glove infielder, and with some of the best power in the college run, this could be looked back on as a steal for Cubbies.

Favorite Fits

Athletics 1.11: Tyler Bremner / RHP / UC Santa Barbara

The A’s draft strategy and player development during their rebuild has been incredible, and at this point with the emergence of Nick Kurtz, they really need some arms. Once talked about as a potential top-five pick, Bremner’s early struggles in his 2025 campaign dropped his stock slightly, but with a pro-ready arsenal and strike throwing ability, this is a match made in heaven for the A’s.

Milwaukee Brewers 1.20: Marek Houston / SS / Wake Forest

After the trade of Willy Adames, and struggling to find a shortstop that plays both sides of the ball extremely well, Marek Houston is a pro-ready approach, and finally tapped into some power in 2025 outperforming his home run and doubles totals from any other year in school, including a one-to-one strikeout to walk ratio.

With a pipeline in place with Wake Forest taking Houston’s former teammate Brock Wilken in 2023, Houston has an extremely safe floor, and great college track record that Brewers fans can get behind.

Kansas City Royals 1.28: Ethan Conrad / OF / Wake Forest

Ethan Conrad could be an ideal fit for the Royals at pick 28, especially for a team that has lacked a premier outfield bat prospect, which has been a true weakness of the team at the Major League level.

While injury tanked Conrad’s stock this year holding him out for most of the season, this could be a steal this late in the first round and fits their needs perfectly.
