College Baseball Update and Draft Stock Watch 🏫⚾️

We have a new top team in the country as we review the headlines around college baseball.

Now that we’re through 10 weeks of the college baseball season, playoff pictures are starting to clear up, sort of…Every week around the country creates more chaos in every conference, and just when we think we have the ‘teams to beat’ pinned down, they go into a slump.

We’ve got a brand new #1 team this week, plenty more that played their way in, and a few that finally seem to be playing the baseball we thought they would all season.

Texas Takes Over as the Top Team

After an impressive showing against no. 8 Auburn in sweep fashion, coming back for a 3-2 win in game one, then dominating the remainder of the series taking care of business with an 8-3 victory, capping it off with a 14-2 run-rule win on getaway day as the Longhorns are now winners of 14 straight.

With the beat down of Georgia a few weeks prior where they held the Bulldogs high-powered offense to just eight runs, the Longhorns have solidified their spot as the best team in the Country, led by Max Weiner and their extremely deep pitching staff.

The Top 25 Update featured three new teams in and three teams out. These teams joined the ranking this week:

  • #14 West Virginia Mountaineers

  • #17 Texas A&M Aggies

  • #20 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers

Meanwhile, these teams fell out of the Top 25:

  • Kansas Jayhawks

  • Virginia Tech Hokies

  • Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Just Baseball Trivia of the Week

Our newsletter will have a trivia question every week to test and expand the baseball knowledge of our subscribers! The answer to the weekly trivia question will be at the bottom of the newsletter each week.

Nine schools that no longer play baseball made appearances at the CWS. Of these nine, two made multiple CSW trips. Iowa State, with appearances at the CWS in 1957 and 1970, is one of those two schools. Which of the following schools is the other to make it to Omaha twice?

A) Colorado

B) New Hampshire

C) Wisconsin

D) Tulsa

Key Storylines from the Week

This week delivered plenty of excitement with a few teams really catching our attention.

The Aggies Are Back!

Texas A&M appears to have finally found their stride and have now won three consecutive SEC weekends, on the road at #1 Tennessee, on the road at #3 Arkansas, and at home against South Carolina.

They’re finally playing the baseball we all anticipated when they were the consensus preseason #1 team in the country. National Championship hopes are still on the Horizon for the Aggies, with more quality opponents ahead, they have the opportunity to make history in what would be one of the greatest turnarounds ever.

Mountaineers Continue to Roll

In a year where it feels like everyone has stumbled and struggled, West Virginia keeps on winning. Sitting at 31-4, with two of their losses and sole seires loss coming at. the hands of the #12 Arizona Wildcats, it’s been an impressive season thus far.

Led by veteran players like Sam White while receiving huge contributions from underclassmen like Chase Meyer who has racked up 44 strikeouts over 29 innings pitched. Watch out for the ‘Neers down the stretch.

Concerns for Tennessee?

The reigning National Champion Tennessee Volunteers have finally hit their speed bump. After starting their season 20-1, they’ve dropped two of their last three SEC series, both at home.

The Vols are still 33-7, but a series loss to Texas A&M, a struggle-filled series win at Ole Miss, followed by a home series loss against Kentucky, they seem to be playing their worst baseball of the season.

On the bright side, there are four more weeks to regain the footing, albeit against some of the best teams in the SEC, but if you’re a Tennessee fan, you’d rather them struggle in April than in a Regional.

2025 MLB Draft Watch

MLB Draft Spotlight Player - LHP Jamie Arnold, Florida State

In a class that lacks sufficient college bats and should prioritize arms early, Arnold’s case to be the leading candidate for 1.1 is tantalizing.

Given what he showed in 2024, the upside is evident, but refining the fastball command will be paramount. With that said, there’s enough to support a No. 3 starter or better in the future. Expect Arnold to hear his name called very early on July 13th.

MLB Draft Spotlight Player - OF Jace LaViolette, Texas A&M

With the meteoric rise of the Aggies after their early season struggles, once talked about 1.01 in the 2025 MLB Draft, Jace LaViolette has finally started putting the pieces together.

Crushing five home runs over the last week, he’s finally hitting above .300 on the season and appears to be showing flashes of the player we know he can be, the draft stock is rising again.
