College Baseball and MLB Draft Update

College baseball season and the MLB Draft is just three months away!

We’ve approached the midway point of the college season! Draft stocks have changed, the Top 25 is as chaotic as ever, and fans couldn’t be happier with the product on the field showing more parity than it feels like we’ve seen in years.

College Baseball Headlines

The top two teams this week, #1 UCLA and #2 Georgia Tech, hold what could potentially be the first two picks off the board in the 2026 MLB Draft, and others have seen their stock skyrocket with their strong showings this year.

Roch Strong at #1

The UCLA Bruins continue their span of dominance having won 27 consecutive games (18-0 B10) on the back of the country’s most balanced team. The all-time record is 34 (held by Texas and Florida Atlantic), and the Bruins continue to close in on it.

The runaway train that has become the consensus #1 team from the jump is on track to beat this record in a few short weeks and could create history on what could be an incredible postseason run.

Yellow Jackets Push

If there’s one team that seems to be able to push UCLA, it’s Georgia Tech. Coming off a statement sweep against Florida State, they hold a team slash line of .359/.477/.630 that speaks for itself as they roll out eight qualified hitters hitting over .300, and eight players with five or more home runs.

The pitching, while not necessarily the strong suit in comparison to the offense, has been more than solid thus far, posting a 4.11 ERA and being led by Tate McKee and Jackson Blakely.

Big 12 Madness

The Big 12, while not the country’s best conference, has certainly been the most entertaining to this point. With four teams in the Top 25, led by Kansas coming off a sweep of who appeared to be the ‘team to beat’ in UCF.

This league is extremely deep, and full of competition and will most certainly come down to the wire when it’s all said and done. If you’re looking for fireworks, this is the conference.

MLB Draft Risers

Draft boards have been shuffling all season long, but at the halfway point, here’s a look at a few players that have vastly increased their stock coming into Draft Day.

Lackey’s Rise. Georgia Tech catcher Vahn Lackey has arguably boosted his stock more than anyone in the country, as he continues to stand out on college baseball’s best offense.

The elite athlete paired with great defensive skills as flourished with his offensive polish slashing .398/.519/.789 with 10 doubles, one triple, and 12 home runs producing a career high 45 RBI in just 35 games.

Flora’s Dominance The Gauchos ace has solidified himself in a position to be the first pitcher taken off the board come draft day, with his miniscule 0.63 ERA to accompany his 71 punchouts over 57.1 innings of work this season.

While being known for his elite fastball, his secondary offerings have shown a complete arsenal and feel for multiple pitches in the zone, while keeping hitters to a .136 batting average.

Chris Hacopian has dealt with injuries through the early part of the season, and while the numbers don’t fly off the page, they also aren’t doing him justice for how elite the bat is. With hardly any swing-and-miss in his game, accounted for by his 18 walks to 11 strikeouts in 85 at-bats this season, he’s also shown huge pop.

Mason Edwards currently leads the country in strikeouts with 95 for USC in his 53.1 innings of work. His 44.4% K% paired with a nation’s best .114 opposing batting average, Edwards has skyrocketed to potentially be the first southpaw taken off the board.

If that wasn’t enough, Edwards holds a 0.88 WHIP and 1.35 ERA, truly becoming a complete package prospect.
