The 2025 MLB Draft was incredible, with surprises coming early and often, as we recap the headlines.

The 2025 MLB Draft has finally concluded as the future stars of Major League Baseball have begun the process of entering farm systems and are ready to make an impact with their new teams.

Top Draft Picks Recap

Everyone had their mocks…and they got all busted extremely quickly this year, like most years, due to the madness of the MLB Draft.
Madness in the Top Two
The first few picks threw the baseball world into a spiral, as the once believed first overall pick changed completely for the Nationals as they elected to go with prep shortstop Eli Willits after clearing house in the front office.
In typical Angels fashion, they took the pitcher with the most pro-ready arsenal in UC Santa Barbara right-handed pitcher Tyler Bremner, who struggled early in his season but has proved over his career to be a dominant arm.
Both of these selections were mostly projected in the range of picks 5-15, but went far earlier than we originally thought.
Consensus Top Arm Goes to Perfect Fit
The expected top pick heading into the draft was LSU left-hander Kade Anderson. Not only did the Nationals end up selecting Willits, but the Angels then passed on him as well with the second pick.
Anderson subsequently fell into the lap of the Seattle Mariners, one of the best pitching development systems in baseball. This fits like a glove as the Mariners now add another elite arm into their future plans.
The Mariners have 7 prospects in our Top 100, the most of any team.

Another Holliday in Colorado
The Rockies have their star of the future…and it’s a familiar name for Colorado.
Ethan Holliday, our top-ranked prospect in the draft, was selected fourth overall the Colorado Rockies. His dad, Matt Holliday, was drafted by Colorado and was a three-time All-Star during his time with the Rockies.

Baltimore Utilizes Four Top 40 Picks
The Orioles had four picks in the first round (including comp picks) and took advantage of it.
With top-10 buzz, one of the most polished college bats in the 2025 class, catcher/outfielder Ike Irish out of Auburn, slid down the board to be scooped up by the Orioles, who have dominated the player development space.
With back-to-back picks at 30 and 31, the O’s took arguably two of the best college players from the 2025 season in catcher from Coastal Carolina Caden Bodine, and Golden Spikes Award Winner, Wehiwa Aloy from Arkansas.
Bodine was clearly the best defensive catcher in the country, and with a near 80-grade hit tool, showing that with only swinging and missing at 12 pitches in the strike zone of the 444 he saw this year. The O’s may have just found a potential Adley Rutschman replacement down the line.
Aloy took home the equivalent of the college MVP in the Golden Spikes, and while there are some questions with the hit tool, flashing light-tower power and is one of the best defensive shortstop in the class.
They rounded out this first round by taking high-upside prep outfielder Slater de Brun with the 37th pick, balancing out their three initial college picks.
Red Sox Make a Killing
One of the best draft hauls comes from the Boston Red Sox, crushing the first four rounds pulling in five college players, three of which being high-level arms.
Just like 2024, Boston got great value with their first round pick at 15 overall with Oklahoma right-handed pitcher Kyson Witherspoon, who flashes an electric fastball in the upper 90s racking up 124 strikeouts in 94 innings in 2025.
In the third round, they would scoop up LSU right-handed pitcher, and Kade Anderson’s right-hand man, Anthony Eyanson, who raised the National Championship trophy just few short weeks ago.
15: Kyson Witherspoon | RHP | Oklahoma
33: Marcus Phillips | RHP | Tennessee
75: Henry Godbout | SS | Virginia
87: Anthony Eyanson | RHP | LSU
118: Mason White | SS | Arizona

Sleepers and Surprises
Like any major sports draft, the most interesting piece to look into is which teams got the best bang for their buck, so let’s dive into a few sleepers and surprises from the 2025 MLB Draft.
Surprising First Rounders
Due to varying reasons including team preference of a player and financial strategy, many players get selected earlier than initially expected every week.
2nd: RHP Tyler Bremner to Angels (#13 on JB Big Board)
17th: OF Ethan Conrad to Cubs (#28 on JB Big Board)
24th: SS Jordan Yost (#74 on JB Big Board)
We touched on the shocker at second overall already, but Jordan Yost is another shocking pick here. The Tigers banked on some upside here and saved money to select some other big-time prep players later as well.
Sleeper Picks
Red Sox - Anthony Eyanson (3rd Round)
Arguably the best value in the entire draft, Boston scooped up the 1B-starter to third overall pick Kade Anderson from the National Champion LSU Tigers. The righty punched out 152 batters in 108 innings pitching to a 3.00 ERA.
Eyanson works in the low-mid 90s with 98 in the tank, featuring great secondary offerings with his slider became his bread-and butter over the course of the 2025 season. Eyanson ranked third in the Nation in wins (12) and strikeouts (152) last season, and fell right into the Red
Reds - Mason Neville (4th Round)
An extremely toolsy outfielder from Oregon, Neville shows extreme athleticism with some of the best power in the class. Certianly shows the tools to stick in center field at the pro level, and still has room to grow with the hit tool, Neville has a massive ceiling and can be the future for Cinci.
Neville posted a 1.152 OPS with 16 doubles, 26 home runs (T-1), and 57 RBI in 2025, cutting down his swing-and-miss over time boosted his stock, and once projected as a late-first to early-second round pick, the Reds got great value in the fourth.
Tigers - Nick Dumesnil (8th Round)
Coming into the 2025 season, Nick Dumesnil was one of, if not my favorite mid-major prospect in the class. The center fielder from Dallas Baptist has an intriguing balance of speed and power, setting a Cap Cod League record swiping 26 bags in 27 attempts.
While his slow start and swing-and-miss concerns definitely lowered his draft stock, Dumesnil has a huge ceiling and if he pans out, is certainly a four-tool player to pair with budding superstar Riley Greene in the outfield.
The Lancer slashed .360/.442/.598 with 21 doubles, three tiples, 10 home runs, 57 RBI, paired with 27 stolen bases in his draft year.
